Roles and Responsibilities

17 January 2011

An important part of the mission at Paul Sadler Swimland is ‘to provide staff with opportunities for personal and professional growth through the development of highly valued skills and experiences that they can apply throughout their lives’.

Certificate Writer

The Certificate Writer’s role provides a positive introduction to the Paul Sadler Swimland philosophy and customer service standards. Certificate Writers are exposed to a range of administrative tasks and are key contributors in rewarding our swimmers for performance and effort. The knowledge and understanding gained in this role assists in the transition to becoming a Trainee.

Trainee

Our aim is for Trainees to become effective Paul Sadler Swimland Teachers by involving them in a comprehensive training and mentoring program. Trainees are supervised by our experienced team and supported by a process that progressively increases the Trainees’ teaching skills, experience and responsibilities within the Paul Sadler Swimland system.

Teacher

The quality of the teacher is the most important factor in how well children learn to swim. Paul Sadler Swimland Teachers know about the skills of swimming and survival and the strategies of how to teach these skills progressively. They practise these teaching strategies frequently and are motivated to continually evolve as teachers.

Mentor

Mentors are responsible for guiding and supporting trainee teachers in becoming valued members of the Paul Sadler Swimland team. Being a mentor is like looking out for your younger brother or sister.

Mentors are selected because:
•    their experience and contribution to Paul Sadler Swimland has been first class and is highly valued
•    they have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Paul Sadler Swimland way
•    they are considered to be excellent teachers and staff members
•    we believe they will be good role models for trainees and other staff.

Deck Supervisor

Once a Mentor has displayed a strong knowledge of the Paul Sadler Swimland way of teaching, they may be trained as a Deck Supervisor. The Deck Supervisor’s primary role is to monitor the quality of lessons and ensure that all classes are conducted in a manner that will facilitate the ongoing progression of every child.

This can be achieved by:
•    ensuring that all lessons are taught at a high standard and that swimmers within each class are being extended
•    ensuring that swimmers are in the most appropriate class for their development
•    providing feedback and follow up to staff
•    communicating swimmers’ progress with parents as appropriate.

Deck Supervisors are available to speak to parents about their children’s progress and answer any questions they may have about their child and about Paul Sadler Swimland in general.

The effectiveness of the training provided across all roles at Paul Sadler Swimland is demonstrated in the career progression and opportunities provided to staff across our sites. The majority of our Managers started their careers with Paul Sadler Swimland as trainee teachers or receptionists. We are proud of our reputation for providing a fun, exciting work environment for our highly valued staff.
