SSC Succeeds at the AIS

9 August 2009

SSC swimmers had great success at the ACT Short Course Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Pool in Canberra in the first weekend of August.

Under the enthusiastic watch of families, our SSC President Shona Osborne, and coaches Peter Howes and Dirk Keesman, our swimmers put in a starring performance, with the staggering 68 personal best times swum.  SSC took home 17 medals, including 1 Gold, 11 Silver and 5 Bronze, and every swimmer swum one or more personal best times.  This was a highly impressive performance, especially considering being away from home, and the challenges of being in a different environment after long hours of travelling.

Aside from the swimming, the team and their families enjoyed a fun time socializing.  This included a tour of the Australian Institute of Sport with plenty of games played, as well as everyone enjoying dinner together each night, and listening for eagerly awaited daily updates and the swimmers of the day awards from Head Coach Peter Howes - earning the opportunity to assemble the treasured plastic objects inside a 'Kinder Surprise'!

Congratulations to all the swimmers on their efforts and achievements - results can be found in the Club Calendar section of our website, by clicking on the Results link for the 'ACT SC Champs'.
