Six Swimmers from SSC Bendigo and Bacchus Marsh competed at the Victorian Country Short Course Championships at Wangaratta on the 22nd & 23rd August 2009. They were Patrick Barraclough & Matthew Jenkins from Bacchus Marsh; and Matthew Slot, Nicole Trew, Adam Turnbull & Jacob Waller from Bendigo.
Picture this - 474 athletes warming up in an eight lane 25 metre pool. As you can imagine, the noise level was intense and the atmosphere electrifying. For many of our swimmers it was the first time at an event of this level. There were plenty of nerves and lots of excitement. SSC has only had one athlete previously compete at this level from Bendigo/Bacchus Marsh so to have 6 qualify and attend is a fantastic improvement.
Under the expert coaching of Peter Howes and the support of eager parents, our swimmers put in a super effort. There were 11 PBs from 13 swims. One of our swimmers, Jacob Waller, qualified to compete in 2 events at the State Age Championships. It was great to see our swimmers enthusiastically seeking feedback from Peter regarding their performance.
Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed. Please see the SSC website for individual times and statistics.
