Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Paul Sadler Swimland Carrum Downs for swim lessons?

Our teachers aim to help you learn swimming and survival skills in an engaging and stress free way. As we teach we emphasise a love of the water to help our swimmers feel more comfortable as they swim. One of the techniques we use to achieve this is to implement teaching aids. As it’s proven that low levels of tension result in an increase in coordination, we let our students gain confidence through teaching aids at the start of each lesson before we help them learn new skills.

You can rest assured that our teachers are empathetic, nurturing, and passionate when they teach, and that this helps our swimmers feel safer in the water.

Do you have qualified swimming teachers?

The National Accreditation requires swim school teachers to have approximately 40 hours of training before they teach a lesson. The swim teachers at Paul Sadler Swimland, however, have about 200 hours of training and consistently receive new training and ongoing support.

Our smaller classes also mean that your child will receive more individual help and personalised attention as they participate in lessons. If your child has a fear of the water, our teachers are also experienced with dealing with tears and worries, and can work with your child to help them get past their fear.

If you want an advanced teacher who will work to truly understand your child and their individual needs as they build their water confidence, book with us!

What do you focus on teaching in your swim lessons?

While most swim schools focus on running a stroke development program, our teaching technique and focus is a bit more unique.

During our lessons we focus on teaching our student how to:

  • Float
  • Tread water
  • Blow bubbles
  • Correct strokes
  • Water confidence

However, we also emphasise survival skills. As our swimming programs have been developed and refined over the last 50 years, we are proud of what and the way we teach. Aspects of the survival skills we help our students learn include:

  • Jumping into the deep end
  • Flipping onto your back in the water and swimming towards the edge
  • Swimming without goggles to help prevent panic if a child falls in the water without them

We aim to teach these survival skills in fun and entertaining ways so your children will love learning to swim, but still receive the skills they need to become safer in the water. In early levels, 10 minutes of every lesson is spent in the deep end solely focusing on actively developing these survival skills.

Do you offer baby swimming lessons?

At Paul Sadler Swimland Carrum Downs, we offer a swimming babies program for a gentle and fun swimming introduction for your little ones. Bond with your baby in the water as they learn to swim and develop confidence and survival skills. This parent/ child program is for children aged 4 months to 3 years and for babies 4-5 months old, these lessons are free. Once children reach 3 years and up, they can join a more independent swimmers program to further progress their skills.

We also offer private lessons, adult classes, and holiday programs for our swimmers.

What temperature are your pools?

Throughout the year the water in our pools remains at an average of 32 degrees to help swimmers feel more comfortable in the water as they learn.

Our water is also consistently monitored by an automated chlorination system and by a team member every few hours.
